INTERSECTION member Kaz has released a music video for “Summer is Over”, the closing track on his debut solo EP CODE LOVE, which was released in September. This gospel-inflected ballad features guest vocalist Mai Anna, Kaz’s schoolmate at Harvard University. The song was produced by the two artists together, and is about a passionate relationship that blossoms in the mournful final days of summer.

Kaz commented, “The song has a gentle melody that evokes the end of summer, with a warmth and touch that feels like touching someone’s skin.”

The music video features a full-length animation created by Mirai Mizue, who has made videos for numerous artists and is renowned for creating abstract and organic animation works called “cell animation”, a play on “cel animation”. The video is attracting attention online thanks to Mizue’s original interpretation of the themes of “Paradise Lost”, playing with abstraction, metamorphosis and trippy psychedelia.

Kaz from the boy group INTERSECTION has released his very first solo EP, CODE LOVE across all digital music streaming platforms. Kaz himself was directly involved in the production of every song on the new EP. Its release follows the June 2021 single “White Stallion”, which broke records on its release in China, becoming the first song by a Japanese artist to simultaneously hit No.1 in four separate category charts on Chinese download sites.

Kaz is currently studying at Harvard University. With roots in jazz and classical music, He is expanding his horizon so the new EP takes in such diverse genres as alternative, chill, trip-hop, lo-fi rock, lo-fi pop and more, to create music that is not tied to stylistic boundaries. It is a challenging work that will surprise listeners with Kaz’s musical essence. Producing this EP at the age of 21, Kaz has set a new standard for Generation Z artists, and this release proves he is well on his way to becoming an icon himself.

Kaz commented on the work stating

“The title of this EP ‘CODE LOVE’ explores the sentimental and subtle emotional complexities of love. I wanted to express my thoughts about life and love outside of stereotypical expressions of romance by exploring the various feelings that surround love that stay in people’s hearts for better or worse. For this EP I got to work with many talented artists and musicians, and it represents my musical journey specifically expressing a wide range of genre-blending musicality. I hope everyone is able to feel and relate to all of the new dimensions of my sound as I continue to grow and develop as an artist and continue my journey of discovering myself.”

The release of the EP was preceded by three single releases. “White Stallion” broke the sales record for a Japanese artist in China on its first day. “Drown feat. Hikari Mitsushima” was released last month. Most recently, he released “Summer is Over feat. Mai Anna”, which attracted attention from revered media outlets such as The Associated Press and Sweety High.

Kaz of the boy group, INTERSECTION, has released “Summer is Over feat.Mai Anna” across all digital music streaming platforms, this closely follows his single  “Drown feat. Hikari Mitsushima” which was released earlier this month. This track epitomizes the feeling of Summer’s end and reflecting on all of the memories and romance of the season.

This is the third self-produced single that Kazuma has released this year and is the last before the release of his first solo EP, CODE LOVE, on September 13th. It will include “White Stallion” (which was downloaded 250k times on the first day of its release in China alone, breaking the record for a Japanese artist)  and “Drown feat. Hikari Mitsushima” as well as “Summer is Over feat.Mai Anna”

“I have produced this song with a producer Solomon Fox, who is a singer-songwriter in the U.S. This song was created at the end of summer as the title says when I was 19. My friend Mai Anna, who goes to the same school as me, joined to write the lyrics.

The melody is soft as it lets you imagine the scene of the end of the summer, but I added the warmth and the sense of the human temperature. Although it’s nostalgic when summer is over, this is the song about the passional romance relationship.” - KAZ

Mitchell Kazuma from Japanese-American boyband INTERSECTION Releases Self-Produced Single, “Drown feat. Hikari Mitsushima”!

Hikari Mitsushima

Performing under his solo name ‘Kaz’, Mitchell Kazuma from Japanese-American boyband INTERSECTION, has released his second solo single, “Drown feat. Hikari Mitsushima” across all digital music streaming platforms. Though the song follows Kazuma’s originality, this new single broadens his new musicality with actress Mitsushima’s voice complementing the mood and Kazuma’s vocals.

This new single was produced by Kazuma alongside Ryosuke "Dr.R" Sakai with lyrics written by Kazuma. The main theme of the track focuses on a romantic relationship with the lyrics about being drowned in love. This is the second self-produced single that Kazuma has released this year. In June of this year, Kaz released “White Stallion” which was downloaded 250k times on the first day in China alone, breaking the record for a Japanese artist.

“This single was originally produced as an interlude for the EP. When we got the chance to introduce this music to Hikari, we also offered her to sing it together. She agreed to join this song so we finished mastering it as a single. Hikari’s voice has added more color and made the song completely new from just one storyline by me to a  ‘conversation of two people’. We expressed being drowned in the emotions as a message of this song. Depending on the listener, this may seem like a song that is about the romance of being in love with someone or a song about your own internal feelings that only you know about. It’s best to just listen and understand the way to be drowned by the wave of the emotions in your way, not to be fully explained by someone.” - KAZ
