Kiyoshi Hikawa Brings the Southern Winds With Upcoming Album!

Enka star Kiyoshi Hikawa announced that he will be releasing a brand new album, 南風吹けば (Minami Kaze Fukeba), June 8. This will be latest release by the artist since  “南風” (“Minami Kaze”) back in January and will include “千年先までも” (“Chitose Saki Made mo”), which was composed by Raymond Matsuya, and “紫のタンゴ” (“Murasaki Tango”), written by Reiko Yukawa. The album will feature twelve tracks in total and be available in two editions: a CD-only standard edition and a limited edition which will come with a bonus DVD. The DVD will contain the music video for “Murasaki Tango". The music video, produced in a studio near Tokyo, is a lively work featuring professional tango dancers and Hikawa’s expression of duality by changing make-up and costumes.

Kiyoshi Hikawa Goes Live With Butterflies In New Release

Enka singer and superstar Kiyoshi Hikawa has revealed that he will be dropping a brand-new live-DVD titled Kiyoshi Hikawa Live -Papillon- which is set to be released on March 2nd. Kiyoshi Hikawa has been working in the industry since 2000 and has become one of the most popular enka singers coming out of Japan. Hikawa has gained more prominence with younger audiences with his song “Genkai Toppa × Survivor” which is used as the opening theme for mega-popular shonen anime Dragon Ball Super. This performance was done for the Wowow television station in Japan and didn’t have a live audience. Additionally, it was part of his twenty-year celebration. Kiyoshi Hikawa Live -Papillon- is being released in a single DVD-only format and is up for pre-order which is posted below along with the complete track-listing for his live performance.

Kiyoshi Hikawa Says Hello to Galileo With Upcoming Album!

Enka industry staple Kiyoshi Hikawa announced that he will be releasing a brand new album, Papillon -Bohemian Rhapsody-, June 9. His album cultivating the theme of “living on the preciousness of life”, Hikawa looks to shake things up for the upcoming decade. Popular tracks include hits like “限界突破×サバイバー “ (“Limit Break X Survivor”), which was performed at the 2019 NHK Kohaku Uta, along with “碧し” (“Aoshi”), which popular music group GReeeeN wrote and composed for Hikawa. Of course, as the title of the album implies, Hikawa will also take on the daunting task of covering legendary band Queen’s hit track “Bohemian Rhapsody”. 

The album will be released with fourteen tracks and two editions lovingly called Type A and Type B. Type A will be released with a CD and DVD which will include music videos of various tracks on the album while Type B will be a CD-only release.

Kiyoshi Hikawa is okay with new single

Enka singer Kiyoshi Hikawa revealed he will be releasing a brand new single titled “Daijobu / Mogami no Sendo” which will be released August 27. This release follows Kiyoshi’s project Shin, Enka Meikyoku Collection 9 Daijobu / Saijo no Sendo which came out June 4. “Daijobu / Mogami no Sendo” will serve as a celebration of Kiyoshi’s presence in the industry for twenty years now. The single is being released in three editions total, each CD-only but featuring its own unique cover art. There will be a total of nine tracks and each edition will feature its own track. King and Prince wins big at Japan Golden Disc Awards!

The thirty-third Japan Golden Disc Awards ceremony happened this past week and none other than Johnny’s new group King & Prince took home the gold, becoming 2018’s New Artist. 

There were certainly other points of interest from the award show. For the second year in a row, Amuro Namie became Artist of the Year for domestic side—with this being her third time winning the award overall. While not surprising, with their hit movie taking Japan, the band Queen took Artist of the Year for the western side—it has been fourteen years since they have last done so. Korean group BTS also won the award for Best Asian Artist while—also not surprising—Kiyoshi Hikawa won Best Enka Singer of the Year.
