One Eye Closed Brings in A Squall with Latest Collaboration!

Popular “mixture rock” band One Eye Closed have released their new single, “Squall” featuring guest vocals from AJ Rebollo of ISSUES. One Eye Closed combine sounds and grooves rooted in rock, metal and pop with touches from the world of Vocaloid, hip hop and jazz to create a fresh and exciting new style that's also reminiscent of emo, nu-metal and J-rock classics.

Mixed and mastered by Яyo Trackmaker of visual kei pioneers girugamesh, “Squall” offers a new sound to their already diverse discography utilising that special essence found in Japanese rock. The track and its accompanying video are filled with imagery of a journey traversing through a snowstorm, supporting its theme of perseverance.

Speaking about the band's collaboration with ISSUES' AJ Rebollo, vocalist REI says:

"All members were fans of ISSUES before we even formed. With that shared love for ISSUES and bands-alike between us four, we started playing together. I believe that our fans can definitely feel that influence in our work. When I was writing the vocals, I was actually envisioning a part with strictly unclean vocals. I then thought, “wouldn’t it be cool if AJ Rebollo from ISSUES could do the unclean vocals here?” Long story short, since we were huge fans of AJ’s guitar work, composition skills, and amazing vocal work, we shot him a message and now the band is ecstatic and honored to have AJ be a part of this song that means a lot to us."

Driven by storytelling, honest lyrics, dynamic playing, and strong live performances, One Eye Closed is one of the driving forces in the underground J-rock scene from Tokyo. In the blink of an eye, the band has gone global. Their blinding debut EP Cain – self-released at the end of 2019 – not only saw the band gain attention from Japan's underground rock scene, but also from music fans around the world when one if its tracks became the ending theme to a video game. EP track “Low” features in 'Best of E3 2019' finalist 'No Straight Roads' on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

One Eye Closed continued the narrative flows set out in Cain with follow up EP Abel in the late summer of 2020, showcasing further the bilingual singing talents of REI, effortlessly able to mix soaring vocal hooks with rap and r'n'b influences; the mysterious and creative guitar prowess of 'none'; the energy of funky bass groover Yasu; and the dynamic power of Kay on drums. The band released their debut physical full-length Adam & Eve on JPU Records in 2021, a compilation of songs from their Cain and Abel EPs, along with three brand new tracks.

One Eye Closed Take a Glimpse at a Dystopian Future in All of Us with Latest Release!

Brand new rock band One Eye Closed take a sarcastic look at Japan's work ethics in new single “All Of Us”. Available across all digital streaming platforms the track sees the Tokyo quartet flip expectations once again, changing things up from the fresh nu-metal energy of “N.C.H.”, the winter ballad vibes of “With How I Feel” or the melodic-rock groove of “Monster”.

The band's bilingual vocalist REI comments, "We wanted to push ourselves as musicians with this track. “All Of Us” keeps our rock roots, but blends that core with funk, jazz and pop more so than any of our releases so far. Despite this being One Eye Closed's closest thing to a pop song, the lyrics are anything but."

“All Of Us” music video sees the band's members REI, none, Yasu and Kay in a dystopian future where everyone dresses the same, acts the same and are blind to the world around them. "It's an exaggeration of modern life," explains REI. "Here in Japan there's a real pressure to fit in with society. We thought there were a lot of avenues to explore around this concept, whether you're a musician with the expectations to make pop songs and not be true to who you are, or if you're a salary-man living with a boring, repetitive and enforced routine. We shouldn't be afraid to push back. That's the message of this song and its video."

One Eye Closed Lets Fans Know How They Feel with First Winter Balad!

Four-member rock band One Eye Closed has released their first winter ballad. It's entitled “With How I Feel” and is available to download and stream worldwide via JPU Records from today. The Tokyo-based band gained global recognition earlier this year when their ace rock anthem 'Low' was featured as the ending theme to the action adventure game No Straight Roads ("The coolest game of 2020" – Forbes). The game went on to be nominated in the 2020 PlayStation.Blog Game of the Year awards in the 'Best Independent Game' and 'Best Soundtrack' categories.

“With How I Feel” sees One Eye Closed take a new direction in sound with their first rock-ballad. The song's beautiful music video. It features vocalist REI walking through Tokyo's downtown districts, capturing the stunning city's Christmas lights as he goes. It also features the jarringly empty streets of Japan's usually-bustling capital during the pandemic. Read REI's comments about the song and the creation of its video below.

REI's comment:

"This is the first time for One Eye Closed to record a ballad, and we're really proud of the result. In Japan Christmas is a time for a couples, so we hope this song about unrequited love resonates.

"We shot the music video in famous spots around Japan's capital, including the iconic Marunouchi station building of Tokyo Station, and the night-lit streets of downtown Ginza and Roppongi. It was a lot of fun, and we loved being able to show off how beautiful Tokyo is at night.

"On a side note, we filmed this during the pandemic, with cases rising here every day. That's why we're wearing masks. Not only did we abide by the rules set out for Japan, but we also wanted to capture this unusual moment in our history on film. Times are tough now, so we hope you enjoy the video and can find some inner peace with our song. As always, thank you for supporting One Eye Closed. We have lots more coming your way."
