URBANGARDE Spreads Subculture Online for Upcoming Utsu Fes 2020!

URBANGARDE announced that their yearly subculture music event Utsu Fes (“Depresion Festival”) will be transmitted online this year.

URBANGARDE’s earlier plans to stage the 2020 “UTSU-LYMPICS” to match the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games have been postponed due to ongoing pandemic In its place, the band will present an abbreviated lineup in front of a sold-out live audience, broadcasting worldwide from Tsutaya O-East in Shibuya on Sunday, September 13. In addition to URBANGARDE’s first live performance in six months, Utsu Fes 2020’s lineup of Japanese subculture artists will include Atarashii Gakkou No Leaders, Kenji Ohtsuki, and Eren-Chan, who will each perform a special collaboration with URBANGARDE in addition to their solo sets.

URBANGARDE Aligns the Polkadots with First Authorized Biography!

Three-member Japanese rock band URBANGARDE announced that they will release their first-ever authorized biography on April 27.

Mysteriously titled Polkadot Autobiography – URBANGARDE Chronicle will cover the early years of the band’s formation by band leader/vocalist Temma Matsunaga and vocalist Yoko Hamasaki. The musicians will reveal stories behind the band’s most outrageous and controversial music videos, behind-the-scenes conflicts, and private photos from URBANGARDE’s illustrious 12-year career. The book will also feature a new biography of URBANGARDE keyboardist Kei Ohkubo and extensive notes about their connection to several of Japanese subculture and national issues, including earthquakes, nuclear power, mental health, lolita culture, and pop idols.

The autobiography will drop with two editions; a standard edition and a limited box set edition which will include a bonus booklet “Dying in Shinjuku and Other Short Stories”, a specially-designed t-shirt, tote bag, rubber keychain, and an exclusive book cover.

To celebrate the book’s release, URBANGARDE has uploaded several rare videos to their YouTube channel, including some early promotional short films, live performance clips, and dance videos.

Urbangarde brings in the new year with new album

Rock band Urangarde announced their tenth album, TOKYOPOP, which will be dropping January 1, 2020. Nobu Nozomi left the group in March of 2018 and this will be the first album released since Urbangarde became a three-member rock band. TOKYOPOP will feature new songs along with remixed sound sources by other artists. There will be two editions total, a standard edition and a limited edition. Pre-orders are up and posted.
